Give Fans a Reason To Buy: Make Direct-To-Fan Work | Topspin Media

In an ironic twist, a discussion about helping artists earn money began with a bit of piracy. “Fans don’t need more places to buy music; they need more reasons,” said Brendan Moore of Frontgate tickets. He then admitted that he stole this quote from co-panelist Benji Rogers of PledgeMusic. But regardless of its origin, the point is valid — give fans a good reason to spend money on your art, and they will.

Website Demolition Derby in Austin | Topspin Media

Topspin has always extolled the value of the artist website. But just having a website isn’t enough. Have you ever googled an interesting product or service, only to be turned-off by their frustrating website? The same applies to potential fans who seek out your site. A good or bad experience with your site can impact their overall feelings about you & your music.

It’s 2012 now, artists are basically their own label if they choose to be and it’s fine climate to get heard. If you have the talent, all you need is a SoundCloud account and presence on the two major social networks: Facebook and Twitter.

Cameo Carlson, Head of Digital Business Dev. at Borman Entertainment – This Week in Music

This is one of my favorite episodes of the series, so far. Cameo Carlson and Ian Rogers talk, at length, about establishing direct and deep connections with fans of an artist they (Borman) represent. Spending time, resource, and money in the short-term to establish long-term revenue streams for an artist. Cameo gets “it”, Borman Entertainment gets “it”, if only more artist managers got “it” there would actually be a bigger musician middle-class.

Excellent interview, Ian and Cameo

In the 29th episode of the This Week in Music Nashville Series of interviews. Ian Rogers sits down with Cameo Carlson, Head of Digital Business Development at Borman Entertainment. The two talk about the interaction between labels and iTunes, which parts of iTunes create the most impact for artists, new cost structures for management companies, and her role and initiatives at Borman Entertainment.

Digital Music News – Twitter’s Guide to Maximizing the Artist Tweet…

Yes, you can overdo Twitter, especially when it comes at the expense of your music. But this is undoubtedly a critical channel for connecting with fans, and some ‘best practices’ are emerging.  Here are a few from Twitter itself – be warned, this is a little self-promotional and superstar-heavy at times, but a good review.

Topspin + MTV = Artists.MTV | Topspin Media

Artists.MTV is a new initiative that gives artists direct access to their MTV presence and empowers them to connect directly with MTV’s millions of fans. It starts with all-new artist pages that allow fans to discover new music, connect directly with artists, and then buy music, merch, tickets, and more. Musicians of all levels (not just famous ones) will be able to connect with an audience, get heard, promoted and paid. It’s open to every artist on the planet.
