Songkick Tourbox – Reach Hundreds of Millions of Fans

Songkick has launched a new service called Tourbox. On the Tourbox web page they state: “Add your tour dates once. Tourbox publishes them everywhere”.

A recent article on Tourbox in the L.A. Times indicated that Tourbox was developed with input from the renowned Chicago-based booking agency The Windish Agency.

Once an artist or their team adds tour dates into Tourbox the dates are then published to Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, Songkick, Facebook, Tumblr, Foursquare, and many more. The artist or their team can also embed the dates directly on the artist’s web site. Making it easy to keep tour date listing updated across all digital touch points.

Topspin Labs: iFrame Anywhere – Holy Crap!

Before you continue reading, click this link and watch what happens. When done, come back here to read what I did to make it happen.

Attended a mini Topspin ecosystem partner bootcamp last week with the awesome and amazing Topspin Creative Services team members Chris Carlson and Parker Todd Brooks. They walked the Music Geek Services team through all the current and future Topspin Labs tools. MGS had been using Download Anywhere for about a year and dabbled with Link Builder, but had not yet used iFrame Anywhere. As Chris and Parker talked about it and walked us through a use-case example, the wheels in my head started turning.

The next day as I was reviewing my emails, one of them was from Rhett Miller‘s label manager. She mentioned that American Songwriter magazine had just posted a great video of Rhett performing an acoustic version of one of the songs off his upcoming album in their offices. She wanted it posted on his site so they could link to it from Twitter, Facebook, etc. Hoping that the video would provide some buzz about the upcoming album.

After I posted the video to the site I realized this situation was perfect for iFrame Anywhere. Why should we be linking to YouTube, the magazine, or to some news post deep inside Rhett’s web site. Why not send the user to a page that would have the video “hover” over the current pre-order offer page. So the user would instantly see the video, be given an opportunity to socially share it on Twitter and Facebook, and then when done watching the video would be delivered directly to Rhett’s home page which current features the pre-order campaign and tour date listing.

We could then tweet out this link, post it to Facebook, and share it via emails. This would drive traffic to an awesome video but also to the pre-order page.

When the user socially shares it via Twitter, here’s the default tweet:

Here’s what it looks like when the user shares it via Facebook:

Then when one of their followers/friends clicks on the link, they end up on a page that looks like this with the video hovering in a modal window over Rhett’s home page which contains his pre-order offers:

When the user is finished watching the video they can either trigger one of the shares or click the “x” and they end up on Rhett’s offer page:

This tool could be used for a video launch, an email-for-stream (e4s) campaign, or anything that you can whip up that will work inside an iFrame when you want to feature content, but also drive traffic, on your website.

Artist of the Day: Riverboat Gamblers’ Share-2-Unlock | Topspin Media

For the Riverboat Gamblers new album “The Wolf You Feed” we (Volcom Entertainment, the band’s record label) were faced with a shorter than normal pre-release set up window. So we decided since we couldn’t do a more traditional trickling out of new songs and tidbits from the album over a 3 month period prior to release, we would accelerate that whole process by kicking off the entire pre-release album promo only 3 weeks before the album’s release.

13 Step Guide To Building A Cult Of Superfans – hypebot

While reading a recent set of tips for turning your fans into superfans, I was struck by how the list and related explanations made it sound like they were describing how to build a cult. If that sounds a bit too sinister, perhaps thinking of turning your fans into superfans by treating them like insiders will make these tips work for you.

Yellow Pencil Inc. :: Blog :: Social Media – The Friend You Need to Stop Ignoring

I notice many companies using social media to talk at their clients, not with them. Social Media should be viewed less as a marketing tool and more as a communications tool. The most valuable feature social media offers you and your company is the opportunity to listen to your audience and to learn from them what you could be doing. Stop telling your audience what they want!

Marketing Plan Tactics For Independent Musicians – Part 2 of 3: Album Launch – MTT – Music Think Tank

A great way to build excitement amongst your fanbase leading up to the release of a new album is to organize a pre-sale campaign. Hold a contest, where everyone that makes a pre-sale purchase is entered in to win a prize. Prizes could be additional merchandise, tickets to the CD release show, or if you really wanted to get crazy, offer to write and record a song about the winner. From your online store, you should have a few different pre-sale packages at different price points available. For example: – Tickets to CD release show and digital album – Autographed CD and tickets to release show – Autographed CD, T-Shirt and tickets to release show and make sure everyone who purchased the album during the presale gets their purchase by the release day (that’s the point of the pre-sale!), so mail out any packages a week beforehand and send them a digital download of the album by release day or better yet, the day before.

Marketing Plan Tactics For Independent Musicians – Part 1 of 3: New Album Preparations – MTT – Music Think Tank

Chris Hacker here, I create Marketing Plans for artists at Cyber PR® and really enjoy working with my many clients. I’ve noticed a huge problem though. Artists call the Cyber PR® offices all the time looking for us to promote their new album, totally fine of course, but the problem lies in that many of these artists call us when their albums are coming out the next week!! It completely baffles me that an artist or band will work so hard on an album, spending hours and hours writing songs and practicing these songs and then spending large sums of money recording, mixing and mastering, to only rush the release with no plan in place! Not planning enough lead time for a press campaign isn’t the only issue, but many people we talk to try to release their album when some of the basic music promotion elements aren’t even in place, for example a website where you can sell the music!

How to EMAIL ALL FANS in Topspin

Someone asked me recently how to do something I realized wasn’t so obvious. So I did a short 1-minute screencast for it, which you can watch below. The confusing part is that you’d think you would want to start in the FANS section and there would be a magic button to “email all fans”. But, Topspin considers emails primarily a promotional tool. So, you need to start over on the PROMOTE tab.
